PETRONAS Sprinta Racing prepared for Aragon Moto3 action

Darryn Binder joined by Moto3 debutante Syarifuddin Azman at AragonGP this weekend

The Gran Premio de Aragon, the first of two back-to-back GPs, will get underway this weekend for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Darryn Binder, where he will be joined by Syarifuddin Azman – who makes his Moto3 debut in this one GP for the team.

The 2020 AragonGP proved to be a highly successful one for Binder, who made his way from outside of the top-ten to finish second – setting the fastest lap of the race as well. The South African will be hoping for a repeat podium performance this year, as he looks to come away from MotorLand Aragon with a large points haul to reduce his points deficit in the standings. Binder goes into the 13th round of the season sixth in the championship, with 95 points.

With usual team-mate John McPhee making his Moto2 debut this weekend, Malaysian talent Syarifuddin Azman [Damok] will take his place in the squad and experience his first taste of the Moto3 championship. Currently competing in the FIM CEV, Damok has proven himself to be one to watch, as a race winner in the Moto3 Junior World Championship. With both experience of the Honda NSF250R and the Aragon circuit, this weekend is the perfect next step for him to showcase his talent.

The weekend’s track action will commence for Binder and Damok on Friday with FP1 at 9am local time (3pm MYT), while Sunday’s 19-lap Moto3 race will get underway at 11am local time (5pm MYT).

PETRONAS Sprinta Racing prepared for Aragon Moto3 action

“The Aragon track is one that I’ve really enjoyed over the years and I’m really looking forward to getting there this week. It’s an awesome circuit and there are some super cool parts of it, like the corkscrew or where the wall is on Turn 12. It has some great overtaking spots as well, which makes it fun. Like always I want to be in the top-five this weekend, so I’ll be aiming for that. Hopefully we can get a good place on the grid, to make that easier, and if we can be in the podium fight then even better.” – Darryn Binder

“I am so happy and so excited to be racing in the Moto3 championship for the first time this weekend. I am going to give 200% in every Free Practice session, Qualifying and in the race too. I have some great memories from Aragon in the Moto3 FIM CEV class, so I hope that I can do that again this weekend in the world championship. Thank you again to the team for giving me this opportunity.” – Syarifuddin Azman
