Enea Bastianini Wins At Silverstone, Jorge Martín Takes MotoGP World Championship Lead

Jorge Martín has the 2024 MotoGP World Championship title lead after he finished second in Sunday’s British GP as six-time champion Marc Márquez ended the day in fourth. Here is all you need to know:

– After Enea Bastianini had pipped Martín to victory in Saturday’s sprint race, Italian title rival Francesco Bagnaia led into turn one on Sunday ahead of the Spaniard and Bastianini as Trackhouse Racing’s Miguel Oliveira and Raúl Fernández collided leading to a crash for both.

– Martín soon moved up to second then overtook Bagnaia midway through the race at Turn Three to seize the lead, only to run wide at the penultimate lap to hand Bastianini the win with Márquez fourth.

– Martín, 26, said: “I didn’t feel good confidence with the front all weekend. Today we did a small step and I think we are still finding our base set-up. Behind Pecco I actually felt good, but when I was in front I struggled to stop the bike. Hopefully in Austria it will be a better result. Whatever comes, I will try to enjoy everything that happens on the track.”

– Spaniard Álex Márquez finished seventh with compatriot Pedro Acosta eighth for Red Bull GASGAS Tech3, Australian Jack Miller 12th, Frenchman Johann Zarco 14th and Augusto Fernández 16th as South African Brad Binder failed to finish for Red Bull KTM much like Portuguese Oliveira.
